Play Illawarra
Play Illawarra is an initiative of Healthy Cities Illawarra Incorporated (HCI). It is a community based non-profit which receives core funding from the NSW Health Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) and project funding and sponsorship from a wide range of other sources.
HCI takes a community- centered approach to meeting the holistic health needs of the communities most vulnerable members. HCI advocates for prevention of disease through the delivery of community activity that is designed with communities to meet their needs and interests.
Recent sponsorship from The Fore Wollongong has been able to build a site that will support families to enjoy some of the Illawarra’s best play grounds, and as an addition so of its finest and most beautiful Natural spaces to play.
Get Out and Play!
A rise in childhood obesity, adolescent mental health issues and over subscription to screen time is damaging to children’s health. Research tells us that play is an important inclusion in children’s lives. Limiting opportunities to play; especially outside, can be linked to increased risk of adulthood diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
The Play Illawarra website aims to support families to get out and play. Whether it be a day out exploring the Illawarra or a trip to a local park space, a holiday or an adventure in a National Park or foreshore area, the website facilities aim to support choice of play space (natural – bush or basin, destination play grounds and local play spaces) and the facilities that parents would like to be available to them to ensure a great day out.
Every month we will show case the best of the best! The jewel in the crown for each of the Local Government areas for you to visit and enjoy.
