This is a website dedicated to providing detailed and up to date information about playgrounds and play opportunities for children and their carers across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. Not only will it help you find local playgrounds and play services but it also provides playground photos, lists of facilities, map links and more for over 270 playgrounds across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.

Play is vital to the physical and emotional health and well being of children. Play encourages children and adults to interact socially and be physically active as well as use their imagination and problem solving skills. This site aims to provide parents, carers, and anyone involved with children, with information to help them find local playgrounds and play activities so that they can plan visits and days out that meet the play needs of their children.

The Play Illawarra website was established in 2006 and is co-ordinated by Healthy Cities Illawarra – a not for profit, community organisation committed to the continued improvement of the health, environment and quality of life of the Illawarra community. After receiving corporate sponsorship this year the site has extended the information that it brings you to include natural places to play. Global research tells us that natural spaces are the richest places to play and offer the most valuable play opportunities for children to exercise their imagination and interaction with the world that they live in.

Wollongong City Council, Shellharbour City Council, Kiama Municipal Council and Shoalhaven City Council are also supporters of the Play Illawarra website project.

We hope you find this site useful and that it contributes to the goal of improving the health and well-being of children and adults across the region by encouraging active outdoor play.

You can provide feedback about any of the playgrounds listed by posting a comment or emailing us at play@healthyillawarra.org.au.

Our special thanks go to The Fore who have sponsored the re design of this siteĀ and to Natiive who have provided web hosting for this site
